Over 1,200 professors and assorted scholars, teachers and other professionals converged on a Boston hotel conference center earlier this week to attend the 45th Annual Conference of the Association for Jewish Studies, the largest gathering in the organization’s history. Presentations on Jewish Identity and International Pop Music, a panel on using social media as a tool for Jewish history research and talks on Medieval Jewish Marriage and Kabbalah as Literature were among its 190 sessions.

One week from today, over 2,500 British Jews and activists from 40 Limmud communities around the world will converge on the University of Warwick to celebrate Jewish learning at Limmud 2013, known to participants and volunteers alike simply as Conference. And for those unable to attend, for the third straight year, eJewish Philanthropy will be hosting live-stream sessions direct from the U.K.

We invite you to participate in an exciting conference that will convene more than 400 Jewish day school leaders (lay and professional) from across North America and around the world. The Schechter Day School Network (SDSN) and day schools affiliated with the Yeshiva University Institute for University-School Partnership (YUSP) will convene iJED 2014, the first Jewish day school conference of its kind on March 2-4, 2014 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, NY. With the guidance and coaching of Heidi Hayes Jacob and the Curriculum21 team, iJED 2014 will be an authentic 21st century learning experience, modeling best practices in teaching and learning.

RAVSAK, the Jewish Community Day School Network and PARDES: Day Schools of Reform Judaism, are convening a joint day school leadership conference entitled: “Moving the Needle: Galvanizing Change in Day School” at the Westin LAX, January 19-21, 2014. Inspirational keynotes, workshops and networking opportunities for educators, administrators, board members and stakeholders of network member schools will engage participants around design thinking, school change, board development, educational leadership, innovative technologies, contemporary ideas of Jewish pluralism, Israel curricula, modes of prayer education, special needs inclusion, early childhood education and more.

Over 100 Jewish educators from 25 different European countries attended the 6th Arachim Conference in Madrid on the November 17-19, 2013. Arachim, organized by the European Council of Jewish Communities (ECJC) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), was hosted by the Jewish Community of Madrid, with the support of the Lauder Foundation. Arachim 6 encouraged the participants to connect and learn about Innovation in Jewish Education, giving rise to many new collaborative educational programs.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, Solomon Schechter School of Queens will be hosting a JedCamp style evening of participant driven learning. There is no cost to participate and a kosher dinner will be provided. We are looking for teachers, Ed tech coaches/integrators, principals and other administrators, parents, and students to share ways educational technology and/or social media has improved quality of learning for our children.The evening will include two sessions (one hour each) with dinner in between.

The Hartman Rabbinic Torah Study Seminar is an annual 10-day study program that enriches rabbis of all denominations and nurtures their capacity to inspire their communities, excite them by the Jewish tradition, and motivate them in their quest for meaning. During the summer 2014 seminar, June 30-July 10, 2014, the faculty of the Shalom Hartman Institute will explore and teach Jewish ideas relating to the pressing contemporary issues of war and peace.

The Yiddish Book Center of Amherst, Mass. is launching a second series of weeklong seminars — called Tent: Encounters with Jewish Culture, focusing on Jewishness along with either creative writing, pop music, food, comedy or theater. Tent, a series of one-week seminars for twentysomethings, provides participants with the opportunity to explore aspects of modern culture through a Jewish lens and to delve into the vast, complex, and immediately relevant cultural side of their identity.

The Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel (BYFI) announced last week that applications are now being accepted for the 28th year of this program. The Bronfman Fellowships selects 26 outstanding North American students for a rigorous academic year of seminars including a free, five-week trip to Israel between the summer of fellows’ junior and senior years of high school. The program educates and inspires exceptional young Jews from diverse backgrounds to grow into leaders grounded in their Jewish identity and committed to social change.
