Collaborative Text Study and Reflective Practice: Deepening An Inquiry Stance in Teaching and Learning - A Summer Workshop

The Center for Studies in Jewish Education and Culture (CSJEC) at the University of Cincinnati is pleased to offer a summer course on August 1-5, 2011, focusing on collaborative text study and reflective practice. It will be taught by Miriam Raider-Roth (director of CSJEC) and Elie Holzer (Bar-Ilan University, Israel). This is a course for both educators who are new to collaborative text study and reflective practices as well as those who already have experience with these practices and are interested in expanding their knowledge and practice in these domains. Educators from all grade levels and all learning environments are welcome.

PELIE Technology Fellows Program: ISTE 2011

Jewish Agency for Israel Student Conference: From Herzl until Today - European Jewry and Israel

The Jewish Agency for Israel sponsored a student conference for nearly 400 Taglit and Masa Israel alumni in Weimar, Germany, from November 25-28, 2010. The Jewish Agency for Israel 'Student Conference: From Herzl until Today' brought together German-speaking young adults from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the founder of modern Zionism, Theodor Herzl. The conference focused on modern Israel, its centrality in the Jewish world, and the global campaign to de-legitimize Israel.

MOFET Annual Educational Technology Conference 2011 – The Name of the Game: Integrating Computer Games in Learning

This year MOFET Institute's Annual Educational Technology Conference was devoted to integrating computer games in various aspect of learning. Various games can contribute to learning information, developing thinking, physical coordination and dexterity, collaborative and decision-making skills, as well as moral judgment capabilities. They have the ability to strongly motivate and provide immediate reward and feedback. The conference provided hundreds of participants an overview of the use of games, simulations, and virtual reality environments to enhance learning and challenge the participants to utilize them in their learning environments.

Shaping the Future: Reconstructing the Textbook in the Digital Age

Fourth MOFET JTEC Seminar for Spanish Speaking Diaspora Community Leaders Held in Israel

MOFET JTEC recently completed its fourth Israel seminar for Teacher educators, teachers and leaders of Jewish communities in the Spanish speaking world. This was the first session held in the Israeli winter and proved to be an unforgettable experience for the 43 participants from Argentina, Chile and Spain. The seminar focused on Jewish leadership models throughout Jewish history to the present, on the analysis of the participants' management styles, and on designing ways to promote the participants' role as teacher educators, teachers and community leaders now and in the future. During the two week seminar, the participants studied, toured the country, and met prominent Israelis such as Government Ministers, Members of the Knesset, Ministry of Education officials, leaders of social organizations, and much more.

Chavura CHAI: A South American Training Event and Beyond

Ariel Lifac writes in eJewish Philanthropy about the 18th Meeting of Latin American Jewish Educators – this year called Chavura CHAI - which was held in BAMÁ – “Home of the Jewish Educator” in Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 16 and 17, 2011. More than 800 educators (teachers, professors and headmasters of all educational levels) from Jewish schools of Buenos Aires, the provinces of the country and abroad – Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Peru – participated in this event, which celebrated the continuity of the educational task that BAMÁ has been developing for the last 10 years.

A Study Tour in Israel on: The Inclusion of People with Special Needs into Higher Education and Society

MOFET ITEC has announced a special Israel study tour dedicated to the inclusion of people with special needs into higher education and society on May 15th – 19th, 2011. The main goal of the tour is to present the concept of 'Academia for All' and its implementation as expressed in academic institutions in Israel, while becoming acquainted with what is being done in other places in the world and thus creating a professional dialogue among the experts. The various sessions will emphasize the common concept of accessibility in Israel and its implementation in institutions of higher education. Relevant and innovative research of recent years in Israel will be presented. During the study tour the participants – experts, researchers and other professionals from around the world – will meet with their colleagues in Israel, who deal with access to higher education for people with limitations.

Jewish Women's Archive Institute for Educators - 2011

The Jewish Women’s Archive will be holding four days of intensive professional development at the Institute for Educators, July 10–14, 2011 in Waltham, MA. The 2011 Institute will focus on the rich stories of Jewish women and men involved in the Civil Rights Movement. Open to educators working with students in grades 8–12 in formal and/or informal settings. All expenses (including travel - up to $500, hotel, and meals) will be covered by a generous grant from the Dorot Foundation. Twenty-five educators will be selected to participate in the Institute.
