The 2012 Conference of the Australian Association of Jewish Studies, to be held in Melbourne on February 12-13, 2012, focuses on examining how the 21st century will sustain and transform Judaism and Jewish identities. It looks to past models of Jewish culture and identity in order to provide a comparative perspective on current and future trends impacting on Jews and Judaism.

The Auschwitz Jewish Center Fellows Program is a three week study trip for students who are matriculated in graduate programs or are completing undergraduate degrees in 2012 in Holocaust studies and related fields. Students of all faiths and ethnicities with an interest in Holocaust studies, Jewish Studies, Polish-Jewish history, memory, or human rights are strongly encouraged to apply. The program will begin in the last week of June 2012; all program costs, including international travel, lodging, room and board, and materials, are covered.

Following the success of last year’s study tour, The MOFET Institute, which is involved in promoting the professional development of teacher educators, invites you to participate in a unique experience in Israel. This study tour will include an introduction to The MOFET Institute, visits to teacher education institutions and institutions of higher education, trips to schools in which communication-based programs and online teaching are implemented, and an encounter with the Israeli hi-tech industry.

On Wednesday October 5th, Jewish students around the world are invited to attend an online prayer gathering on behalf of Gilad Shalit and the other missing IDF soldiers. The Gathering will be broadcast around the world from the tent of the Shalit family in Jerusalem, with the full support of the Shalit family using the WEBEX videoconference platform.

Last year, the Global Day of Jewish Learning celebrated the completion of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz’s monumental translation on the Talmud. In the spirit of Rabbi Steinsaltz’s call, “Let my people know,” this year’s Global Day on November 13, 2011 will focus on the unity of the Jewish people and the central role of our Jewish texts. The mission of the Global Day is to bring the Jewish people together once a year to celebrate our foundational Jewish texts through community based learning. The URJ welcomes the participation of congregational volunteer leaders and professionals at the URJ's Education Summit, December 14-16, 2011, outside Washington, DC. The Summit, a track of the URJ Biennial Convention, will include large and small group sessions dedicated to Teen Engagement successes, learning, and a campaign platform for congregations to sign on to – dedicating their efforts to maximize teen engagement with the 2020 vision of reaching a majority of b'nei/b'not mitzvah through high school and beyond.

This year, in response to the tremendous display of interest, two seminars in Spanish for Jewish educators and community leaders were held for the first time – the first during the Israeli winter months (January 2011), and the second during the summer vacation (June 2011). The first seminar, which was tailor-made for the educators from South America, who are on vacation from school at that time of the year, boasted 43 leaders and educators from Chile, Argentina, and Spain. The second seminar was held, as it usually is, in June, which suited the educators from Central America, who are on vacation from school at that time of the year.
