Onward Israel has begun its second year of operation this month, bringing over 500 students on 22 programs from around the world to Israel, with the goal of eventually reaching thousands annually. The ultimate purpose of Onward Israel is to exponentially increase the number of Taglit and teen programs alumni who return to Israel for a transformative identity-building second visit, eventually reaching a stage where such experiences are available to all who want them and become a rite of passage for Jewish young adults throughout the Jewish world.

Some 80 percent of Jewish day school students in the United States come from the Orthodox sector, but the research on the meaning and impact of Jewish education, even day school education itself, focuses primarily (though not exclusively) on people and institutions that are not a part of it. But new research at Yeshiva University’s Azrieli School of Jewish Education is changing the picture.

Seven educators from around the globe attended the MOFET Teach 2013 study tour which took place March 11 – 18, 2013. The tour included an introduction to the MOFET Institute, visits to teacher education institutions and institutions of higher education, trips to schools in which communication-based programs and online teaching are implemented, and an encounter with the Israeli hi-tech industry.

MOFET JTEC will be conducting its ninth special leadership seminar in Israel for leaders of Jewish institutions in Spanish speaking-countries. The 15-day program on June 4-19, 2013, will include study visits, workshops and conferences which will broaden the knowledge and experience of those working in Jewish education, and community leadership, thus empowering them in fulfilling their daily functions in their respective Jewish institutions.

Repair the World, in conjunction with the Jewish Agency for Israel, is pleased to announce the release of a new study, “Serving a Complex Israel: A Report on Israel-based Immersive Jewish Service-learning.” The study shows that contrary to common assumptions held in the Jewish world, exposing young Jews to the complex issues underlying Israeli society increases their commitment to the country and motivates them to want to work towards social change in Israel.

The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem recently announced a new initiative exclusively for Masa Israel Journey program alumni: significant tuition grants of up to 70% off for the 2013-2014 Year Program. These $4,000 Year Program tuition grants are available on a limited basis, and roughly parallel the amounts awarded by Masa Israel Journey to those eligible in order to help cover the cost of full-time study at Pardes.
