Applications Now Open for AVI CHAI Sponsorship For the Principals' Center Summer Institute at The Harvard Graduate School Of Education!

As in the past, this summer The AVI CHAI Foundation will sponsor up to 20 day school leaders to attend one of two institutes at The Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This year, in addition to accepting new candidates, AVI CHAI is also opening the application process to alumni of these institutes, both those who were sponsored by AVI CHAI and those who came on their own. Jedcamp South Florida (JEDcampSoFlo) - Jewish Educational Technology PD

On Sunday December 30, 2012, the Scheck Hillel Community School hosted the world’s first JEDcamp, a unique, participant-driven professional development conference for teachers of Judaic Studies. The event, called JEDcamp South Florida (JEDcampSoFlo) brought together forty educators from seventeen different schools, synagogues, institutions and agencies of Jewish education in South Florida.

Toward a More Effective Mentoring Model: An Innovative Program of Collaboration

In this article the authors describe and analyze the first 2 years of a mentoring program designed to support teacher retention and growth. The program, planned between a Jewish education agency and university faculty, was implemented in several Orthodox Jewish day schools. Mentoring was provided by university faculty and the relationship between the mentor and teacher was non-evaluative and fully collaborative. Data collected from mentors, teachers, and principals are analyzed and presented, and implications for Jewish day schools are discussed.
