Preparing the Prophets - Navi Teachers from Across Tri-State Area Convene to Share Ideas, Discuss Technique

How do you teach Sefer Yeshayahu (Book of Isaiah)? Fourteen yeshiva high school teachers came together on Yeshiva University’s Wilf Campus in late March to ask each other and themselves that question, under the auspices of YU’s Institute for University-School Partnership. Hailing from a range of schools across the tri-state area, the teachers were united by the subject they all taught (Navi, or The Prophets), their desire to enhance their own approach, and the opportunity to learn from others.

The Educational Leadership Advancement Initiative (ELAI) - 2012

The Lookstein Center, with its partners; the Jewish Education Project and the UJA-Federation of New York, announce the opening of the third cohort of the initiative to train promising teachers and administrators in New York area schools to take on larger leadership roles in Jewish Day Schools. The Educational Leadership Advancement Initiative (ELAI) program is designed for Jewish education professionals – teachers, department chairs, assistant principals, guidance personnel – who aspire to increasing their impact on their schools and are looking for a career ladder.

Rabbinic Torah Study Summer 2012 Program

Each summer, the Shalom Hartman Institute brings together a pluralistic group of rabbis from across North America with senior Hartman faculty members in Israel to address a major issue facing contemporary Jewish life. The 2012 Rabbinic Study Seminar in Jerusalem , July 2- 12, 2012, will explore the foundational Jewish issue of faith: its place in the landscape of Jewish values, and the challenges of modern life to that faith and in which faith plays a part.

Kevah to Begin Teacher Training Fellowship

Kevah, a Bay Area-based organization that engages Jewish identity and builds Jewish community through study of classical Jewish texts, has received a $250,000 grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation for the Kevah Teaching Fellowship. The Fellowship will provide participating educators with a fully funded professional development opportunity in facilitating Jewish small group learning for young adults.

New Teacher Induction Model Impacts Retention in Jewish Day Schools

Interim Director of the Jewish New Teacher Project, (JNTP) writes about how the program helps empower new teachers and encourage them to grow in the field while greatly benefitting the veteran teacher mentors. The JNTP has developed a large network of over 150 mentors and 500 teachers through its work in more than 70 Jewish day schools and yeshivot since its inception.

Applications for the Hidden Sparks Internal Coach Program Now Being Accepted!

The Hidden Sparks Internal Coach Program is designed to support a school’s long term ability to address the needs of struggling learners by providing training to selected faculty members to be resident Hidden Sparks coaches – trained in understanding and teaching to diverse learning styles, behavior management, assessment of children with learning differences, and classroom centered coaching. Training takes place in Spring, 2012 so that Internal Coaches can begin coaching in their schools during the 2012-13 school year.
