The MindCET EdTech Innovation Center, established by the Center for Education Technology, is now opening its registration process for the 2013 round of entrepreneurs. MindCET, which focuses exclusively on education technology, provides an incubator, network of experts, access to a network of schools willing to participate in pilot projects, and ad-hoc research.

Students in southern Israel have been told to stay home to avoid being hit by rockets fired from Gaza, but that doesn’t mean kids get don’t get to learn. Thanks to smart classroom technology implemented in the Negev in recent years, many students have been continuing classes at home, and in shelters.

The Virtual High School, a new initiative of the Ministry of Education, the Center for Educational Technology (CET) and the Trump Foundation was unveiled at a festive event attended by high school students from all around Israel at the CET building in Tel Aviv. The purpose of the virtual high school is to increase the number of students finishing their studies of mathematics and physics at an enhanced level with higher achievements.

Smadar Goldstein of JETS (Jerusalem EdTech Solutions) tells of an online professional development program which she led for seven Jewish studies teachers from the Warsaw Lauder Morasha School. The goal of the program was to empower the Lauder Morasha School staff to teach students in remote areas through distance learning programs that include both Jewish and general studies.

The not-a-box-media lab will soon be releasing the AlephBet App, an Apple iPad/iPod application, designed to teach early Hebrew letter recognition to three-five year olds. The AlephBet App offers parent and child learning opportunities at any time. It contains three different games to practice the Hebrew letters. The AlephBet App will be made possible with generous support from the Covenant Foundation.

Dina Kraft writes about a slew of new smartphone apps that serve the Jewish observance and educational needs. There are now dozens of apps developed for mobile devices that range from finding the closest Kosher restaurant to teaching preschoolers how to write their Aleph Bet and more are being released every month.
