Annual Teva Seminar on Jewish Environmental Education

Pardes Day School Novice Teachers' Curriculum Workshop - 2009

The Pardes Summer Curriculum Workshop is aimed at new Judaic Studies teachers of grades 4-12, combining professional development with Judaic learning in Jerusalem. The cost of tuition, housing, and most meals is provided by grants and contributions. It is open to Judaic Studies teachers in North American day schools, who have been teaching for one to five years.

YIVO EPYC Educators Seminar on East European Jewish Heritage

The third YIVO EPYC Educators Seminar on East European Jewish Heritage will be held June 22 to 25, 2009, at the Center for Jewish History in New York City. Eligible participants in the Educators Seminar include teachers from various settings, including Jewish high schools, colleges, public schools and private schools, museums and afternoon religious schools, as well as graduate students in education and Jewish studies.

The Steiner Internship in Yiddish Studies

The Steiner Internship Program at the National Yiddish Book Center selects 18 students for six weeks of immersion in Yiddish culture. Each intern is provided with free tuition; undergraduate college credit for two courses is available. Limited housing subsidies are available, based on need. The Steiner Internship program runs from June 14 to July 24, 2009, and is open to all full-time university students.

2009 MOFET JTEC Seminar in Israel for Diaspora Community Leaders

For the third consecutive year, MOFET JTEC and Soul Train are conducting a special Leadership Seminar in Israel for leaders of small Jewish Communities from around the world. During the three week seminar, the participants will study, tour the country, and meet prominent Israeli individuals such as ministers, Members of the Knesset, Ministry of Education officials, leaders of social organizations, and much more. The group will learn and deliberate about issues and topics that are of interest and concern to small Jewish communities. These discussions between the participants and seminar leaders will be continued after the seminar using digital communications.

JTA Announces First Green Beanie Awards

In conjunction with this year’s Tu B’Shevat holiday, JTA is sponsoring a contest to find the best Jewish environmental initiatives. The first Green Beanie Awards will be handed out to 10 synagogues, schools, community centers and other Jewish institutions with “green” projects that have shown significant impact or innovative interpretation. Winners will be announced in conjunction with a special section titled “Eco Jews: Traditions and Trends in Jewish Environmentalism,” that will appear Feb. 1-11 on JTA's Web site, coinciding with Tu B’Shevat.

B'Lev Echad – World Wide Online Hachnassat Sefer Torah & Siyum

B'Lev Echad is a global initiative to unite Jews around theworld to commemorate the first yartzeit of the 8 students killed at Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav and celebrate the Torah to which they were so committed. The event will take place in Jerusalem on February 24th, 2009, while schools, yeshivot, college campuses, and institutions around the world participate in this event via a live internet broadcast. The event will also conclude a worldwide learning initiative and mitzva campaignproject.

Changing Economy Webinars

Summer 2009 Campus Fellows Seminar in Boston

The David Project, a non-profit Israel education organization, invites university undergraduate and graduate students from across the US to attend a four-day Israel advocacy and leadership seminar at Boston University during August, 2009. The Campus Fellows program provides students with the scholarship, strategies and skills which define effective Israel activism on campus.
